Description

Prazicid tablets for cats contain a combination of praziquantel and pyrantel pamoate. Each tablet weighs 1 gram and contains 50 mg of pyrantel pamoate and 15 mg of praziquantel, along with auxiliary components. These tablets are administered orally and are packaged in blister packs of 6 tablets each. Each carton box contains 1 blister pack and stickers for the veterinary passport.

Pharmacological Properties: Prazicid tablets are a convenient combined anthelmintic with a broad spectrum of activity against all stages of development of roundworms and tapeworms, including Toxocara mystax, Toxascaris leonina, Uncinaria spp., Ancylostoma spp., Trichuris vulpis, Echinococcus granulosus, Echinococcus multilocularis, Mesocestoides lineatus, Diphyllobothrium latum, Dipylidium caninum, Multiceps multiceps, Taenia spp., parasitic in cats. The suspension component praziquantel enhances the permeability of cell membranes to calcium ions and inhibits the parasite enzyme fumarate reductase, causing spasmodic contraction of the musculature leading to paralysis. Pyrantel pamoate acts as a depolarizing neuromuscular ganglionic blocker, paralyzing the musculature of roundworms. Praziquantel is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, distributed in the organs and tissues of the animal, and excreted in the form of metabolites in the urine. Pyrantel pamoate is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, ensuring a longer parasiticidal effect directly in the intestines, and is primarily excreted unchanged in the feces. In terms of its effect on the warm-blooded animal organism, Prazicid tablets are classified as moderately hazardous substances and, in recommended doses, do not exhibit local irritant, sensitizing, teratogenic, or embryotoxic effects.

Indications: They are prescribed for the prophylactic and therapeutic deworming of cats against roundworms and tapeworms, including mixed infestations.

Dosage and Administration: Prazicid tablets are administered orally to animals individually, once in the morning feeding with a small amount of food (such as a piece of sausage, meat, with minced meat, or porridge) at a rate of 1 tablet per 3 kg of body weight. Prior fasting and the use of laxatives are not required when using the drug. Prophylactic deworming is carried out every 3 months, as well as before each vaccination. Therapeutic measures against nematodes and cestodes are carried out as indicated. In case of severe infestation, the drug can be re-administered after 10 days. Pregnant females are prescribed the drug with caution, 3 weeks before the expected date of delivery, under the supervision of a veterinarian, and nursing females can be treated 2-3 weeks after delivery.

Side Effects: In rare cases, allergic reactions may occur in animals sensitive to the components of the drug. In such cases, animals receive symptomatic therapy and are prescribed antihistamines according to the instructions. Significant overdoses of the drug in animals may lead to a depressed state, refusal to eat, excessive salivation, and gastrointestinal disturbances. In such cases, detoxification therapy is administered.

Contraindications: Increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug. It is not recommended to deworm females during the first half of pregnancy and within 3 weeks after delivery, kittens under 3 weeks of age, as well as animals with infectious diseases, recovering, or debilitated animals. Do not administer the suspension simultaneously with piperazine derivatives and other drugs inhibiting cholinesterase.

Special Instructions: When using the drug strictly according to these instructions, no special instructions are required.

Storage Conditions: In a dry place, protected from direct sunlight, inaccessible to children and animals, in the manufacturer’s packaging at a temperature from minus 10 to 20 ºC. Shelf life – 3 years.
